J24 Fleet43 Covid PLAN - as of 5.28.2020

J24 Fleet43 COVID PLAN (as of 5.28.2020)

As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are adapting the J24 Fleet 43 2020 Racing Program. The plan is to provide guidelines and some simple processes, so all participants feel safe. The goal is to go sailing on Casco Bay this summer and have fun.

Please keep in mind that it's the boat owner's responsibility to communicate boat specific plans and protocols to ensure the entire crew feels comfortable. Here is a link to the State of Maine guidelines for community sports activities. Please take a look!

6/6/2020          Launch at Handy Boat

6/10/2020        Start of Spring Series

6/20/2020        2nd launch at Handy Boat - tentative

6.10.2020 Launch notes: All sailboats are advised not to use PYC float 4 (outer-most dock) at all and we must not hog the other floats to rig our boats. a quick mast step, a few shrouds, then off to moorings for tuning is advised.  No one at HBS or PYC will be catching dock lines!

PYC Launch: Two launches can service 6 boats a run, so 2 runs will cover the whole fleet.  Two crew members go get the boat and pick up the rest of the crew at the dock. The end float will be open for touch and go.

J24 Fleet43 COVID Spring Series (June 10, 17 and 24th)

1.     Please note - this plan is fluid and changing based on CDC guidelines.

2.     This series will not be a part of the 2020 Tonini Series.

3.     Two divisions (You can choose a different division each week):

a.      Short-handed (3 or less)

b.     Fully crewed (4 to 5)

Overview:

1.     Follow PYC guidelines (see link).

2.     "Park, race, and go home" - We will not have any gatherings post-racing until further notice.

3.     Social distancing on PYC grounds, floats, and launches is required and face coverings should always be worn when social distancing (less than 6 feet) is not possible.

4.     PYC Guidelines constitute that two crew members pick up the rest of the crew at the dock. Only 10 people allowed on a float at a time.

5.     If you have access to a dinghy, you are encouraged to use it (instead of the launch)!

6.     No rafting on the dock.

7.     Exchanging items between boats are discouraged.

8.     Lindsay Lord and boat 10 are brought into dock and sprayed down with cleaner by PYC waterfront staff. If one or both boats are not available to the fleet, we will find other fleet members powerboats and borrow an automatic starting system box.

9.     2 people practicing social distancing can crew boat 10 and Lindsay Lord (or a group that has sheltered in place together.) The same rules apply even if we are using privately owned powerboats.

10.  RC boats will be returned to the mooring. PYC Dock staff will spray down the next day before the next use.

11.  RC will wipe down the wheel, dash, and radio with Clorox wipes (provided by Fleet43).

12.  No course board will be used.

13.  No flags will be used.

14.  The 5 min auto STARTING sequence announced over VHF.

15.  We will use government marks and a starting pin. We will use hippity-hop for the pin (to avoid having to blow up marks).

16.  We will use the PYC Thursday night mark sheet to reference govt marks (they are lettered). We will pass out the course sheet electronically.

17.  One long race around the bay.

18.  Skippers will drop off all but one crew member at the dock at the end of the night.

19.  Boats in the fully crewed division are encouraged to wear face coverings.

20.  In lieu of awards, an evening recap will be posted on the fleet FB page.

21.  If a protest or arbitration is needed, we can do it via Zoom.
